Reconnecting a museum with the city! Our proposal for the renovation of the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna (GAM) in Turin has won first prize! Developed together with MVRDV, EP&S Group, STRATOSFERICA and Giorgina Bertolino, the proposal reimagines the museum as an open, living part of the city. The project reconnects the GAM with Turin by reopening its garden and square, removing barriers, and restoring the original idea of a museum immersed in greenery. A new pedestrian axis crosses the site that transforms the square into a vibrant public space – offering an outdoor preview of the collections. Our proposal brings back the museum’s 1959 architectural identity while introducing flexible, contemporary exhibition spaces. The basement becomes a transparent « living depot » revealing the hidden collection through light, while a modular « living machine » allows the interiors to continuously adapt – creating a dialogue between history and innovation. We wanted the GAM to become more democratic, accessible, and flexible – a place where architecture, art, and the city meet each other. Stay tuned for more updates!
